One day recently I was doom scrolling online and saw that an interesting looking sock pattern had just been released.
The Escape socks have brick like texture, knit in DK yarn from the toe up.
The pattern recommended using a solid or tonal yarn but the only DK sock yarn I had in my stash was an old one I bought from Little Stone Cottage Yarns closing down sale.

I did need a bit of assistance starting off as I’d never knit toe up socks before, good old YouTube came to the rescue for the cast on. As these were for my youngest daughter I took her measurements and chose the small size of the pattern to work from. I knit the first foot quickly and got her to try it on. Unfortunately it was too tight and I had to rip it all back and start again in the medium size.
I made a change from the published pattern in that I only knit 20 rows of leg before I did the cuff as she wanted shorter socks.

It only took me 3 days to knit the pair, they’re so speedy. They would be a perfect gift knit for someone in your life who’s knitworthy.

Despite my using a varigated yarn you can still see the texture of the pattern clearly. It’s a very clever, well written pattern which I would recommend even to beginners. I even enjoyed ticking off the progress boxes at the end of each round. ☑️
Miss E was pleased with her new slipper socks and has given them the thumbs up 👍, I can’t believe her feet are almost as big as mine.
